What is Credit Repair?

This term seems to carry a bad aura around it because there are so many credit repair companies that are not legitimately out to help consumers. Many of these credit repair scams are designed to take your money and leave you with no help or assistance in trying to help you repair your credit.

Good, honest credit repair is not something that should be shaded in doubt or mystery. You should know exactly what you are getting from someone who is going to do the work for you if you wish. Credit Repair is something that anyone can do. It is a very time consuming process and takes someone who can keep track of what work has been done and what work is left to do. This job is a huge undertaking for most Americans since they are already working 40+ hours per week.

Credit Repair basically is working on your credit report to correct all of the inaccurate, misleading or information that is simply not your information. Credit Bureaus tell you that you can file a dispute with them but as most Americans find out, they have numerous items on their credit report that needs to be disputed. This is a large process trying to do it with the credit bureau and then you have to think about doing that dispute three times since there are three credit bureaus. But each credit bureau does not have the same information and may not be reported the same way so you must write disputes accordingly. Then you will get responses from the bureaus that will then need to be interpreted and then write new disputes if they are still wrong.

Are you confused yet? Most Americans are and trying to work with credit bureaus is very confusing. Does that mean you should not correct or worry about the problems on your report? Credit means way too much these days to not have an accurate credit report.

A legitimate credit repair company can explain to you what they do and how they will do it. Ovation Credit Services is one of those companies who can help you clear up the confusion and work with you to correct inaccurate information on your credit report.

No legitimate credit repair company will guarantee you a 720-credit report. They can tell you what they have done for other people, review your credit report with you and work to correct all of the issues that you have on your credit report. Once all of the items are corrected on your report they can continue to monitor your information, dispute anything that comes up incorrect and advise you on what you can do to improve your credit score.

There is a lot of work with organizing all of the items on your credit reports, listing which items are negatively reporting on your report, finding out from you which items are inaccurate, and finally begin disputing all of the items that need to be corrected on your report. Generally, you are paying a fee so that the company can organize, write the dispute letters and send them to the credit bureaus for you. This is time and money you might be able to save by using one of the legitimate credit repair companies.

Credit Repair is a legitimate process. It is a process that any American can do for them. So remember that it is not an illegal or illegitimate process. There are companies out there that will promise you the world or can guarantee you can get a new credit file but those companies may be steering you down a process that could not only effect you legally but also financially. I have personally heard about a person who lost several thousands of dollars in dealing with bad credit Repair Company. This person not only lost their money, their credit score actually went down due to the way in which the company handled their account.

Credit Repair and Credit Repair companies can help you recover from an inaccurate credit report. Approximately, 79% of all Americans have inaccurate information on their credit report that is negatively affecting their credit report. Are you among that 79%?

Jump in With Both Feet

The moment you make the decision to start the credit repair process you will feel great; empowered, light, and hopeful. For many people it is a hard step. There may be uncomfortable emotions associated with past credit issues, and revisiting old events can be difficult. But there is nothing more rewarding than regaining control over your life. How do you feel? We suggest you jump in with both feet. You’ll be glad you did.

Knowledge is Power

The first step in the credit repair process is taking inventory. You must get copies of all three of your credit reports. Did you know that each credit bureau reports a different mix of account information? Some creditors report to all three bureaus, others report to only one or two. You need to examine all three of your credit reports to get a complete picture as you begin the credit repair process.

Clean Up Your Credit

A truly effective credit repair and restoration plan may include catching up on past due accounts, evaluating collections to determine if they should be paid, negotiated, or ignored, contacting creditors to discuss rehabilitation options, and more. But before you take any of these steps you should make an effort to identify and remove errors on your credit reports. Finding and removing errors on your reports is an important and powerful step in the credit repair process. It may also be the most difficult.

Spotting Errors

An often-quoted statistic from the National Association of State PIRGs (Public Interest Research Groups) states that 79% of all credit reports contain errors. It is also a fact that people with legitimate credit problems are considerably more likely to have errors on their reports. This is because late payments, charge offs, and collections trigger activity such as re-coding of accounts for special handling, and sale or assignment to outside parties for collection. These procedures dramatically increase the likelihood of errors. Credit reporting errors translate into higher interest rates on every dollar you borrow, and many of these errors are hard to spot. Doing the job halfway should not be an option. If you do not feel comfortable tracking down errors on your report you should hire a credit repair professional.

A Disturbing Cycle

The fact that errors are most likely to appear on the reports of those with past credit issues is one of the most problematic phenomena in the credit repair world. On one hand it creates significant barriers for those who can afford it the least; it is difficult enough to regain control over your life after a period of financial stress without the system placing extra obstacles in your path. It is also damaging in a more subtle and insidious way. People with credit issues often feel reticent about the credit repair effort. The emotional discomfort following a period of financial stress makes a critical examination of their credit reports difficult. As a result they live for years with innumerable errors on their credit reports. These errors reduce their scores, cost them money in the form of higher interest rates, and place unnecessary ongoing strain on their budget. But there is good news. Awareness leads to action, and a focused credit repair effort can turn things around quickly.

Rebuilding Your Credit

Another important step in the credit repair process, which is often neglected after a period of financial strain, is the rebuilding of credit. The overall content of your credit report will determine your FICO scores, the scores lenders use in underwriting loan applications and determining the interest rate you will pay. To build your FICO scores it is essential to have current open accounts in good standing on your report. Many people avoid opening new accounts due to fear of denial. This is a mistake. You can work for months to repair your credit, but if you are left without a measurable, current, history of on-time payments your FICO score will go nowhere. Secured credit cards are the perfect credit repair tool. Secured cards require a small savings deposit, and will typically provide a credit line equal to that deposit. These cards are designed for people with credit issues, so you don’t have to worry about being denied, and most importantly they will provide the track record the credit-scoring model is looking for.

Developing a Budget

Credit repair requires effort. You will want to insure your efforts continue to pay off well into the future. It is important to make payments on time, incur only manageable debt, and build savings to cushion your budget in the case of unforeseen events. A thoughtful examination of your costs versus your obligations is a perfect complement to the hard work you put into your credit repair. A budget does not have to mean hardship. In fact, you will soon see that it is quite liberating. The effort you put into understanding your finances will give you the information you need to make good decisions in your life, maintain your great credit, build savings, and ultimately allow you to build real personal wealth.

Copyright © 2007 James W.
There is nothing wrong with using your credit cards. Credit cards allow you to manage both purchases and unforeseen events over time. There is also nothing particularly wrong with running your balances up to the limit - unless you need your credit scores to be at their best in the short term.

Using Your Credit Cards

There is nothing wrong with using your credit cards. Credit cards allow you to manage both purchases and unforeseen events over time. There is also nothing particularly wrong with running your balances up to the limit – unless you need your credit scores to be at their best in the short term.

Credit Repair and Your Credit Card Balances

The FICO scoring model recognizes five different credit card usage levels and adjusts your scores accordingly. These levels are 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 percent; the lower your balance the higher your score. This should not be taken lightly. Changing your credit card balances can cause a swing of over 100 points on your credit score. If you are applying for a loan every point on your score counts, so keep those balances down.

Store Cards Can be Good Business

Everyone likes a good deal. So when a cashier at a department store offers a discount in exchange for opening a new store card, it can be tempting. Sometimes accepting the offer is the right thing to do. It can be good business to save a little money. But in the world of credit repair, timing is everything. When that store card hits your credit report it will put a big dent in your credit score.

The Problem with Store Cards

Store cards contain three credit score hits in one little package. First is the inquiry, second is the new account, and third, almost inevitably, your new balance will be close to the card’s limit. If you don’t need your credit score anytime soon there is no problem, but if you will are applying for a loan, or are in a credit repair program, think twice before opening that new store card.

How Many Credit Cards

Too many credit cards are not great, so a bit of financial simplification may be in order, but don’t get carried away. Many people start a credit repair program and decide to tidy up their life by closing all but one credit card. This can send your credit score into a tailspin. If you have more than five open cards, go ahead and trim down, but otherwise leave them open. Your credit scores will thank you.

Rebuild Your Credit Now

After a period of financial difficulty many people find themselves with no open accounts. You need to have open accounts to build your credit scores. Credit repair takes time. Don’t wait until you have cleaned up the old derogatory information on your credit reports before applying for your new credit cards; start building now.

Secured Credit Cards for Credit Repair Success

If you can’t get approved for regular credit cards, get secured cards. Secured cards require a small saving account which will secure your new credit line. Open two secured accounts, keep the balance under twenty percent of your limit and you will see big credit repair results before you know it.

Authorized User Accounts – The Good News

Authorized user accounts provide two benefits. First, they are easy to get; anyone can add you to their account as an authorized user. Second, you inherit the benefit of the primary card holder’s payment history on that account. So, assuming they have a good history, your credit score will increase accordingly. A great credit repair trick – or is it?

Authorized user Accounts – The Bad News

The problem with authorized user accounts is that Fair Isaac and Company has removed the credit score inheritance benefit from the new version of the FICO software. The credit bureaus will be adopting the new software over the next year or so and the score benefit will be gone. It’s time to build real credit. If you cannot get unsecured credit cards, apply for secured cards. Take action today.

Don’t Ignore Collection Letters

The last thing you want to find in your mailbox is a collection letter. It is tempting to ignore it. Unfortunately, if you ignore that collection letter for more than 30 days you have lost a golden credit repair opportunity to validate the debt. If you read the collection letter carefully you will see a notice that you have 30 days to challenge the collection. Don’t miss your chance.

Credit Repair and Debt Validation

Collectors are governed by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which says that if challenged they must, upon request, provide proof of their legal right to collect and an accounting of the amount due. This accounting should come from the original creditor. If the collector cannot provide the requested documentation they must cease collection efforts and not report to the credit bureaus.

Start Your Credit Repair Project Today

Every point on your credit score matters. Credit repair takes time. You cannot afford to delay. Just make sure to do your homework. Educate yourself. There are great resources on the web. If the project seems daunting, hire a professional. Expert credit repair services are very affordable and should include everything you need to optimize your credit score.

Copyright © 2007 James W. Kemish. All Content.

Credit Repair, Is it a Scam?

Many people will argue and tell you that all credit repair is a scam, but if you know your facts then you can see that honest, legitimate companies can assist you in doing credit repair.

Credit repair is not a way to change falsely change information on your credit report. No one can promise you a great credit score because Credit Repair does not work that way. Can you improve your credit score by doing credit repair? Generally, most people find that their credit score does improve with proper credit repair. So let’s start off by explaining what credit repair is and how you should go about it.

Everyone has a credit history report. This report is built upon information that is sent to the credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). The information is then added to your credit history and works to build your credit score.

Most Americans have credit history reports that have inaccurate or misleading information on their reports. Approximately, 79% of all credit history reports have information that is inaccurate. Inaccurate information causes your credit score to be incorrect. Credit Repair is when you dispute the inaccurate information so that your credit report is as accurate as possible. When correcting the information that is inaccurate your credit score will change. Since you are disputing information that is being reported to your credit report that is negative, you will see changes in your credit score in a positive manner. This change in a positive manner will raise your credit score.

Information on your credit report should be reviewed very closely. Dates, balances, payment history can play a huge part in determining what effect that is having on your credit report. For example, if you opened an account in 2000 but it shows on your credit report that you opened that account in 2002, then your credit score will be lower because your score is based on credit history. The longer you have had an account, the more it helps your credit score. If you have an account that shows your balance as $1000 but it actually is $2000 then your available credit ratio is wrong and that will lower your credit score. This is why it is so important to review your credit history report very carefully.

If you have reviewed your credit report and found that you have inaccurate information on your report, then you have the right to dispute that information. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) gives you that right. You can review the FCRA at www.ftc.gov website. This will help you to understand your rights. You should know that no one can remove information from your credit report that is accurate. Any company that guarantees they can is not a legitimate credit repair company.

You have the right to dispute any information without the assistance of anyone. You can take the time to review your report, go over what information is on that report and then determine if it is accurate or not. If you have never reviewed a credit report before then you might be in for a headache as they are extremely difficult to read and determine if the information is accurate or not.

Most legitimate credit repair companies will break down the information on the report and show you what is negative on your report. The best place to start is to review the negative information and determine what is inaccurate. This is where you should begin to dispute the inaccurate information. Again, you can do all of this yourself but it is very time consuming. Now once you have found the inaccurate information on your credit report and begun the dispute process, be prepared for resistance. Most companies don’t want to go back and take the time to review the information closely. This causes them to just verify the account. You might get a letter back from the credit bureau telling you that they verified the account. But you know that the information they verified is still wrong. Most people will stop disputing here and that is why there is still so much information being reported that is still wrong. Sometimes, you have to dispute information on your credit report several times before the company sees that you won’t stop disputing inaccurate information. Then the companies will take a good hard look and generally find the errors. Once they have found the errors, they will correct them.

Don’t dispute too many items at one time. Think of it this way, if someone walked up to you and gave you a pile of things that you were told to fix, you may be overwhelmed and not sure what to do next. Credit Bureaus will “flag” an account that gets too many disputes at one time and may not go forward with any dispute. It is best to dispute a few things at a time so that you don’t “flag” your account. Working at a slow steady pace generally will give you much better results than if you try to get everything cleaned up all at once.

If you dispute an item on Experian, it is best to dispute a different item to the other bureaus. This might help your process of Credit Repair to move more quickly. When a dispute goes to a company for review, if they find an error, they will report it to all three bureaus. So if you dispute one item at all three bureaus and the company reports the changes to all three bureaus, you did not work the system efficiently.

So remember this:

1. Take the time to review your credit report closely

2. Determine which items on your credit report are inaccurate.

3. Dispute the information that is inaccurate.

4. Don’t be discouraged if the bureau reports the information as verified.

5. Don’t dispute too many items at one time. Large disputes will trigger flags at the bureaus.

6. Dispute different things at different bureaus. This might speed up the process.

7. Determine if the problem is small and manageable. Get assistance if necessary.

A legitimate Credit Repair Company can help you by doing all of the day to day work. It could save you a lot in postage if you have huge amounts of disputes to handle. Ovation Credit Services can show you how they process your credit information and how you inform them as to what needs to be disputed. Then your responsibility is to update and simply monitor what disputes are being processed for you. To get the best credit score possible, you will need to start with the most accurate report possible. Then by paying your bills in full and on time, your credit score will get better each and every month.

Credit Repair and Our Poor Judgment

Credit repair becomes necessary in three instances. First, and maybe foremost, is the case of simple ignorance; we get in over our heads out of pure stupidity. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been there, and it’s the easiest thing in the world to do. We get a credit card, see something we want and we buy it. Or we decide to purchase a new car, knowing perfectly well what we can afford, and drive away from the dealer in our deluxe new ride, complete with a whopper of a monthly payment. About a month later the payments begin and we realize we are going to have to juggle our budget to make ends meet. This is the beginning of the spiral that wreaks havoc on our credit report and creates the need for credit repair.

Credit Repair and Risk Gone Wrong

The second case that can create the need for credit repair is the case of risk gone wrong. Entrepreneurs are my heroes; nothing ventured nothing gained; from Apple to Microsoft, America was built on the inspiration of those who tried something new. But for every great effort that survives and thrives, many more struggle and fade away, often ruining the credit history of the inspired entrepreneur. These failures may have nothing whatsoever to do with poor judgment on the part of the business person. After all, the best paid plans often meet unforeseen circumstances. There are so many moving parts involved in running a business that even the most experienced veterans may be taken by surprise. Bring on the credit repair.

Environmental Issues and Other Causes

The third case in which credit repair becomes a necessity is when our environment takes us by surprise. Recession strikes, home values fall; we lose our jobs; take pay cuts, or worse. There are many cases where we dodge the worst of the bullets only to find our budgets squeezed by gas prices forcing us into a borderline financial situation. And so the need for credit repair arises even for those who plan, budget, and think ahead. The road of life takes many turns and we can’t always anticipate what things will look like when we get around the next corner. But when our credit has taken a hit, credit repair can help us patch things up again.

Open Your Mind to the Possibility

Credit repair offers a solution to many of the credit issues that can arise in difficult times. But it must be properly understood. Credit repair is not about removing legitimate derogatory information from our credit reports. Credit repair is about making sure that every conceivable remedy for the issues that challenge your credit scores and financial wellbeing is considered. If you have credit problems you owe it to yourself to open your mind to the possibilities. Time can be your friend or your enemy. If you give up and do nothing to meet the challenges time is not your friend. But if you consult a credit repair professional and explore all of your credit repair options you will be on your feet again before you know it.

Credit Repair and Your Life

There are very real issues with the credit reporting system that that create the necessity for credit repair. You may be aware of the derogatory information on your credit report that reflects an unfortunate event in your life, but did you know that that derogatory data is likely to spawn a cascade of erroneous reporting issues that will magnify and exaggerate your credit troubles. These reporting issues must be identified and addressed. And given the importance of credit in your life, the presence of legitimate credit trouble makes it all the more important to examine every single opportunity to improve your credit scores. You work hard for every dollar you earn. Take the time to insure that your credit is an asset in your life. Explore the possibilities of credit repair.

Since the market for credit repair is so large, it is saturated with credit repair products, each of them claiming to be the best product available. Credit repair products can come in many forms including books, CD-ROM/DVD, or computer software, books being the most common form of credit repair product. These kits can be very helpful to those with poor credit scores. They helped individuals face bad credit scores and bad credit reports

John Ventura wrote a great book called “The Credit Repair Kit” that is widely read. If you search on the Amazon website, you will find the book for $15 if you buy it new or for $1 if you buy a used copy. This book has received very good reviews and has been called one of the best references for those who are interested in improving their credit and credit score.

The book includes many references on the basics of credit. It tells the consumer ways to solve credit troubles, explains credit exposure agencies, and provide information on obtaining and reading your own credit report. There is a lot of information provided in this kit that will help you fix your credit and it is an easy read since the majority of readers are not experts. They are average people who are just interested in fixing their credit.

The World Wide Web has numerous resources for credit repair and there are hundreds of electronic books available that could be very useful tools for repairing credit. A great thing about an electronic book is that you can download them onto your computer and read it on your computer screen at your leisure. The information contained in the electronic book is similar to the information you would get in a paper book but the e-book is much more convenient.

Apart from books there are software tools available to you that you can use for credit repair. You can use and view the application on your PC screen. Some software has tools built in that connect you straight to credit reporting agencies and verify the information contained in your credit report. Over time, the software can help you keep track of your credit status.

When you decide to buy a credit repair kit, remember a few things that should help you and you’re your purchase decision. The kit should:

· Teach you how to read a credit report

· Explain how agencies assess and collect your credit report information

· Teach you the different ways to find out your credit score

· Tell you how to approach the credit reporting agency if there are any discrepancies that you notice on your credit report

· Teach you how to handle identity theft

· Show you how to raise you credit score and improve your credit rating

· Have tools that help you steer away from credit problems after you have fully repaired your credit.

Credit repair kits are a must for those who want to repair their credit as well as their finances

John and Susan declared bankruptcy in January of 2004 and were discharged four months later in April. They were under the impression that there was nothing that could be done to repair their credit following the bankruptcy. They both felt as if they were holding their breath and waiting for the years to pass. In January of 2008 they decided to apply for an FHA mortgage.

They were not really surprised when they were turned down. The mortgage broker told them that their credit scores were in the 400s, but that he thought they should explore the possibility of credit repair. John contacted a reputable credit repair company for a consultation and was surprised to hear that there are many things that can be done after a bankruptcy to clean up one’s credit report.

John signed up for the credit repair program and provided their account representative with a copy of the bankruptcy discharge and the schedule of items included. The credit repair professional gave them some advice about rebuilding their credit and provided several links to secured credit card issuers.

He informed them that these new cards, as small as they are, have tremendous power to rebuild their credit scores as long as they are managed properly. He advised them that the FICO credit scoring model, in use by the majority of lenders, recognizes five levels of card usage – specifically 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 percent. He suggested that they open two new cards each and maintain the balances below 20 percent of the credit limit.

The credit repair company went to work on the post-bankruptcy clean up while John and Susan opened their new secured credit cards making sure to keep the balances in the range that the credit repair professional had suggested. About 45 days later they received updated credit reports in the mail from each of the three credit bureaus. They were surprised to see the number of items that had been corrected.

They contacted the credit repair company to review the results and after going over all of the details were thrilled to hear that the post bankruptcy clean up was completed. No longer were there past due amounts showing on the accounts that had been included in the bankruptcy, nor were any accounts listed in a collection status. In fact, their credit report looked so clean that they could hardly recognize it.

The credit repair representative explained to them that unlike other derogatory information that ought to be disputed in a paced manner to avoid being rejected by the credit bureaus, bankruptcy issues should be addressed all at once. So, much to John and Susan’s surprise, they found that that had already successfully completed their credit repair program.

The credit repair representative spent some time coaching them about debt management and the ongoing handling of the new credit cards. John and Susan could hardly believe their ears when the credit repair representative suggested that they consider reapplying for the mortgage in another five months, just enough time for the new secured credit cards to produce a positive impact on their credit scores.

And, so it was that in the first week of July 2008, only six months after contact the credit repair company that John and Susan returned to the mortgage broker and asked to reapply for an FHA mortgage. The mortgage broker was surprised to see them and even suggested that it was a bit soon for their credit scores to have improved much from the 400s that they had been in January. But when he ran the credit he was amazed at what he saw.

John and Susan’s credit scores were in the mid 600s, a full 200 points above where they had been only 6 months prior. The mortgage broker was thrilled to complete the application. The next day the mortgage broker called Susan at work and told her the great news; she and John had been approved for their mortgage and qualified for the lowest available FHA interest rate.

Last week John and Susan moved into their new home. It’s a beautiful three bedroom, two bath ranch on half an acre just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. John has already purchased a new grill and a lawn mower. A couple of days ago Susan surprised John by bringing home a new member of the family, a two year old Golden Retriever from the local pound. Yesterday they got on two phone lines in their new home and called their credit repair representative to thank him for his guidance and to share all of their life changing news.

Copyright © 2008 James W.

Credit Repair: How to Raise Your Credit Score

The word is out. Unless you are independently wealthy and can pay cash for everything, your credit score will determine the cost of every dollar you borrow, and consequently, the quality of your life. A nationally recognized credit repair explains how to raise your credit score. It’s easier than you may think!

Get the Big Picture

Do you want to have fantastic credit scores? Would you like to be approved for the lowest cost financing available when you purchase a home or an automobile? If so, you need to understand the factors that have the greatest impact on your credit scores – and how to control them. Credit repair can make a dramatic difference in your life; just take one step at a time.

Open New Credit Card Accounts

Credit scores take both the positive and the negative items on your report into consideration. Effective credit repair requires a balanced approach focused on cleaning up negative issues and building positive credit simultaneously. If you don’t have any open accounts in good standing you should open a couple of new accounts as soon as possible. Secured cards are an excellent option if you have had credit problems in the past.

Watch Your Balances

Credit cards are the most powerful credit repair tool available. But they can be your downfall too. It’s all about your balances. High balances can ruin your credit scores, while low balances can propel your scores to new heights. The FICO scoring model recognizes five different balance-to-limit ratios which measure the relationship between your balance and your high credit limit. The ratios are 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 percent. Pay your balance down to below 20% of your high credit limit and watch your scores take off. But let your balance run up to the max and you may see 100 points come off your score. Just remember, the lower the balance the higher the score.

Avoid Store Cards – Sort Of…

Everyone loves a discount. So when the salesperson offers a discount if you open a new store card you may be tempted. Sometimes it makes sense. But if you plan to apply for a loan anytime soon you should decline the offer. Store cards have a funny way of sending your credit scores into a nose dive. This is because they usually involve a combination of an inquiry, a brand new account, and a new balance equal to the high credit limit. These three things combined are deadly. On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with saving money! Just make sure that you don’t need your credit score to be at its best in the next few months.

Clean Up Your Student Loans

Unlike other forms of debt there is no statute of limitation for student loans. This means that they are collectable forever. And the longer you ignore them the worse it gets. Are you behind on your student loans? Do something about it right now. But make sure you know your rights! Call the Student Loan Ombudsman Office at (800) 557-2575. They are there to help you understand your options. They will explain how you can rehabilitate or consolidate your student loans. They will also explain that you have the right to affordable payments and even deferment if you cannot afford repayment at this time. Pick up the phone. Include your student loans in your credit repair effort today!

Remove Old Collections

Are there collections on your credit report? Too many people make the mistake of believing that if it is on their report it is correct. Credit repair requires a healthy dose of skepticism. Don’t believe your eyes. Collections change hands regularly. Did you know that collectors who do not currently own the debt are not allowed to report it? There is a high probability that older collections should not be on your credit report. And if you see more than one collection for the same debt, at least one of them should not be there. Challenge those collections. Watch your scores take off.

Call Mom – Last Chance for Authorized User Accounts

Want a quick increase in your credit scores? Here is an easy credit repair trick. Call mom, or dad, or anyone you know that has excellent credit. Have them contact two of their credit card issuers and add you as an authorized user. You don’t have to use the card, and your donor can remove you at anytime. Within two months the account will appear on your credit report and your credit score will enjoy the benefit of your donors perfect account history for that account. Just keep in mind that this is not a long term fix. The new FICO scoring model has eliminated this loophole and the three credit bureaus will eventually adopt the new model. But it’s still good credit repair medicine!

Confused? Hire a Professional

Credit repair can be confusing. But there is no need to struggle along on your own. Pick up the phone and call a few credit repair services. Choose one that you are comfortable with and let them take over. A credit repair professional will make sure that everything possible is being done to clean up your credit report and optimize your credit scores. But don’t wait. The sooner you start the sooner you will be able to experience the benefits of your credit repair effort. Good luck!

Copyright © 2007 James W. Kemish. All Content.

A credit repair service is a company that specializes in cleaning up your credit history with the goal of raising your credit score in a short period of time. Before you use a credit repair service, there are a number of things you should know about the legalities of such services in order to protect yourself from federal crimes.

The idea of credit repair is a good one, and for companies that are able to raise your credit score, there are many benefits of using such a service. Bad credit that comes from errors and inaccurate information on your credit report needs to be fixed – and the result should be a higher credit score. For example, if you went through a bankruptcy but the individual accounts are still showing past due on your credit report, they need to be erased. If someone got a hold of your credit card and made unauthorized purchases, your report shouldn’t reflect the non payment of those.

When someone has poor credit, it’s typically because they haven’t made their payments on time, or skipped them altogether, or a loan has been moved into collections for non payment. Using a credit repair service to remove accurate negative notations from your credit report is illegal, and punishable with fines and even jail time.

Credit repair services are only useful if you have items on your credit report that are inaccurate, or even a result of identity theft. While you can contact the creditors who reported the information in error yourself, it’s time consuming and frustrating. In these situations, credit repair services are helpful to remove inaccuracies and save you time and frustration.

To repair your credit history, you first need to request a credit report to see which information is incorrect, and then work with creditors to get that inaccurate information removed.

You can write your own letters to each individual creditor as needed to have bad credit items removed. Also, while it is illegal to try to remove a credit item from your report that is the result of actual late payments you have made, you can work with the creditor for a settlement that would result in an update to your credit report showing that the debt is settled. That is all of the steps necessary in the credit repair process.

When you contact a credit repair service, you will know if they are reputable if they ask you whether or not the information on your credit report that’s causing the lower credit score is accurate or reported in error. If they don’t seem to care whether your credit report is accurate, you can be sure they’re not a reputable service.

Remember these things when using a credit repair service:

Only inaccurate credit information can legally be removed. Any company that makes guarantees for performing credit repairs on anything causing a lower credit score is not reputable and should be avoided.

When you use a credit repair service, you’ll pay high prices for the services that you could perform on your own. They are simply saving you time and frustration but it’s up to you to decide whether that’s worth the fee to you or not.

If you keep this in mind, you can successfully have your credit repaired and your score raised so that you can begin to take advantage of lower interest rates and other charges again.
